Planting a Garden in our Neighborhood

Planting a Garden in our Neighborhood

The community of Watsonville is known for its fertile farmland. Strawberries, raspberries, black berries, apples and row crops are all grown in fields around the city. Within the city limits are unused plots of land, such as the area behind Starlight Elementary School.

Local youth and children felt that one of these plots could be used for a community garden. A small team went door-to-door to ask neighbors if they would support a local garden and if yes, what kinds of things they would like to plant. The response was positive and youth began the project during their summer break.
