Making a safe place to play

Making a safe place to play

This Gilroy neighborhood is a mobile home park. On one side are railroad tracks and on the other a large road. The nearest park is far and not easily accessible. A team of middle-school youth decided to clean-out an abandoned field in their mobile home park and to convert it into a soccer field.

Children and youth held a car wash to raise money to help build their soccer field
We cleared the field of garbage and large rocks
We had to dig up a large truck tire! That took a while.
A Bobcat vehicle was rented using funds from the car wash + money donated by parents.
Spraying the dirt to keep the dust down.
Taking a break after a long day
Youth threw grass seeds on the field and waited for the rainy season
